Ok, so I had the first day today- consisted of 6.5 hrs in orientation. it went well.
First impressions:I have to say that their benefits are amazing. Apparently, being a non-profit has its perks. I found out today I have a pension and a 403b. who knew?
Office setup:This is possibly the coolest building I’ve ever been in from a ‘green’ prospective. My cube backs up to the window (literally a window seat) and looks out over the back of the Clinton library and the river. My office chair moves like 15 different ways…I have more natural light than I can shake a stick at.
Position:I will be managing programs and not people… a huge sigh of relief. Programs I can handle. Apparently, they’re gonna let me get my feet wet and start on one fairly quickly.
People:I would estimate that I met approx. 25-40 people today- none of which I remember their names. They issued me a ID badge and a parking hangtag. Everyone is very friendly- but I’m new so they have to be. This position has been vacant for 6+ months so they’re very excited to have someone in it. i met the senior v.p. of marketing today and he was very gracious. The dress code is called biz casual but I would estimate that most everyone wears jeans/khaki’s- a relief for me. Today I was overdressed and will take it down a notch tomorrow. Apparently, they’re not big on Instant Message up there so I’m still wrestling with getting that installed. Biggest surprise- the IT guy that came to talk to us turned out to be a guy from Lake Hamilton (I knew him in Grade School/High School)- so we caught up today while he installed my new electronics. Haven’t seen him in 25+ yrs. Got called by my maiden name which NEVER happens.
All in all it was ok. Had lunch at Ciao- their crème brulee is highly recommended. I miss all of my peeps from my other job and its so weird to be in this environment and not have them to share it with (DR, Jdub, JB, GO, GB, Tlove, KW, Licious, MRey- I’m talking specifically to you). I guess we should have some kind of reunion lunch so we can take a photo together- all I have is in front of the van in fayetteville and some of you are missing.
gotta bathe my heathens now.
i survived.
(heavy sigh of relief)

i have been DYING to ask you about your new job. wasn’t sure when you were starting. as you know, i — as one who has applied, twice, to heifer — am extremely jealous, and extremely impressed that they were smart enough to finally pick you.
glad it went well. hope that continues.
