As September was ‘focus on david month’, that trend has apparently continued into October even though the incident I’m about to expound on happened on 9/29. that’s right, it’s a day that will live in my infamy for a while.
Why?
Cause my baby is growing up. Way too fast for me. Because it seems like yesterday that he was innocent wonder filled with giggles, laughter, and fun fleshy folds to nuzzle. But that is rather quickly coming to an end. Read more »

Which is exactly how I have to characterize myself today—especially since I’ve got a horrible case of laryngitis. And while I don’t think its contagious (I could lick your coffee cup to see), you may notice a very pervasive odor about me which is a nice floral blend of hand santizer and cough drops- because I sure don’t want to give this crap away to anyone. I hate that this always happens when I start to get sick, but it’s the way these things reveal themselves.
Naturally, my family simply revels and does a happy snoopy dance over this little fact. Because I can’t yell. hell, I can’t even talk at a loud whisper without sounding a little Linda Blairish. But in the last year, we’ve had an absolute switch in the behaviors of the children in reaction to this. Read more »

many of you know my sweet little heathen boys, thing 1 and thing 2. thing 2 recently had a well-child appointment (yea, only 8 months after his 4th birthday). i was a little nervous, because let’s be clear- he ain’t a terribly tall kid (imagine that!).
so i was mortified when he jumped on the scale at the doctor’s office. 35 lbs. that’s right, 35 pounds. my heart sank. not because he’s abnormal, but he’s much lighter than i even imagined. i just knew he was over 40 lbs.
well, he shucked off his clothes in the waiting room and i was just slammed—because he looked all scrawny. now, maybe its just the shocking news of the actual poundage the kid is carrying coupled with the sterility of the holding cell room that we were in, but all of a sudden, he looked like a scrawny chicken scratchin around.
